The goal of this workshop is to educate physical educators on how the standards can be used to drive meaningful and purposeful instruction. Participants will learn the necessary tools to improve academic achievement through research-based instruction aligned to the revised 2020 Colorado State Physical Education Standards. Participants will have the opportunity to examine the revised physical education standards and learn about the rationale behind the recent changes. The PECAT (Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool) and Crosswalk Document resources will be shared. These resources can be utilized to evaluate if the curriculum being used is aligned with the revised 2020 standards and identify any gaps. Best Practices will be modeled in a variety of K-12 standards-based activities. Physical Educators will also explore their role in supporting the components of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child Framework

Powerful Teaching: Unleash the Science of Learning - Online Book Study     

 


Description: In this class, educators will read and discuss Powerful Teaching: Unleash the Science of Learning, a book published in 2019 that examines how to apply the latest research in mind, brain, and education (MBE) science to the classroom. Written by Dr. Pooja Argarwal, a cognitive neuroscientist and Patrice Bain, Ed.S., a veteran K-12 educator, author, speaker, and finalist for Illinois Teacher of the Year, Powerful Teaching blends the science of learning with real-world application. Through completely online sessions, participants will discuss the current research presented on educational neuroscience, how the brain learns, and the resulting implications for the classroom. Weekly reading and online discussions allow participants to collaborate and learn together while also providing flexibility for busy schedules.

Design Thinking for School Leaders: Five Roles and Mindsets That Ignite Positive Change - Online Book Study

      

Description: Are you trying to improve the health and wellness of students and/or staff members, but encounter educators that are reluctant to change? In this online class, participants will read and discuss Design Thinking for School Leaders: Five Roles and Mindsets That Ignite Positive Change. Published in 2018, the book takes the reader through the steps of how to apply the design thinking process to address the challenge of change in the school setting. The authors of the book are Alyssa Gallagher, a veteran K-12 educator, school & district administrator, facilitator and educational consultant and Tami Thordarson, a classroom teacher and professional development and curriculum designer.  Design Thinking for School Leaders offers practical strategies for building empathy, thinking outside the box, and designing solutions to making positive change with intentionality. Weekly readings and online discussions allow participants to collaborate and learn together while also providing flexibility for busy schedules. Participants will learn the five components of the design thinking process and plan how to apply the components to a health and wellness change they desire to make in their school and/or district.
